Disabled Artist’s Residency

Occupation rehearsal - Pauline Heath Residency

April 2016

After the huge success of Pauline Heath’s residency with us in September and October last year we were really excited to hold an open call for the next residency opportunity. During March and April we were recruiting for a disabled artist or company to apply for a residency opportunity at ARC. In partnership with Little Cog, through Cultural Shift ARC offered a residency package designed to support a disabled artist or disabled-led company to develop new performance work. The residency could be used to research and develop a new idea, or to rehearse a show in development. The package for the residency included:

  • Up to £2,000 in cash to pay for artist fees, travel and accommodation costs
  • A week’s worth of free rehearsal/development space at ARC
  • Opportunity to perform an excerpt at a scratch night or hold a stand-alone sharing of the work
  • Advice and guidance on the future life of the work, including consideration for ARC’s own programme

We invited applications from emerging disabled artists and companies living and working in the UK, who had produced at least one show. The artist’s work may or may not have a disability focus. Artists and companies sent us information about their work, about who they are and about the stage of development their work was at. It was great to read about peoples’ ideas and the work they wish to develop. The work need to contribute to the aims and artistic vision of Cultural Shift.

We were thrilled to be able to appoint an artist developing a fascinating piece of work and will have news on this soon.
