Work Experience

ARC Stockton Arts Centre will be running a week long work experience w/c Monday 6 July 2020 for a group of 12 young people aged 14-21 based in Teesside to learn more about the internal activity within the building.

We will be looking to select a group of young people with a range of interests including Technical, Marketing, Event Management, and Performance.

The aim of the week will be to give young people experience of managing an event from start to finish by working with ARC staff to develop, promote, and deliver an event. Applicants will also be given the option to complete a Bronze Arts Award (Level 1 Award in the Arts).

We believe that gaining work experience is a vital necessity for young people in order to find suitable employment after leaving education. And the structure of this week will offer students a rich learning experience in the variety of roles that exist within an Arts Organisation.

The event is an immersive film screening, advertised in advance but with the film selected by the group at the beginning of the week. The group will be responsible for all aspects of event planning and delivery, guided through the processes by ARC staff from relevant departments.

Approximate dates and times for the week are as follows:

Mon 6 July 10am - 5pm
Tues 7 July 10am - 5pm
Wed 8 July 10am - 8.30pm
Thurs 9 July 10am - 5pm
Fri 10 July 10am - 10pm
Sat 11 July 2pm - 6pm

Throughout the week the group will record their experience via a physical/digital/recorded portfolio. Applicants will have the option to submit their portfolios and earn a Bronze Arts Award certificate (Level 1 Award in the Arts) which will be moderated following the completion of the week. The cost to enter Arts Award is £45 per person. Applicants interested in this opportunity should express this on their application form. More information on the Arts Award can be found here.

Interested applicants should complete the form, downloaded from here, and return it to ARC’s Young People’s Programme Coordinator, Holly Gallagher, at by 9am on Fri 8 May 2020. Applications can also be submitted as a video or in other recorded formats. This is the only work experience placement we're able to offer in the academic year.

Successful applicants will be required to prepare a short 5-10 minute presentation on someone who works/has worked in the Arts who inspires them to be delivered on the first day of the week.
