Bella is performing in the Studio as part of our new Studio Folk programme - a series of intimate gigs performed by the rising stars of the folk scene.
Bella Gaffney is another emerging talent from the vibrant folk and acoustic scene of West Yorkshire. In January, Bella won a Danny Kyle newcomer award at Celtic Connections 2016, and she is fast becoming a well recognised and respected musician on the UK folk scene.
Bella writes folk inspired songs which she performs along with her own original arrangements of traditional pieces. Influenced heavily by her family's involvement with the iconic Topic Folk in Bradford, she considers herself a singer and writer of songs with strong narratives.
Naturally Bella started her acoustic music career at the Topic, where her the first song she performed was John Martyn's May You Never. Her songwriting is influenced by lyrical songwriters as diverse as Richard Thompson, Jez Lowe, Billy Bragg, Jack Savoretti, Roger Davies and Michelle Shocked.
Bella is currently recording a second album to follow her first album, The Clock That Didn't Stop.
Her performance credits including Otley Folk Festival, Hull Folk Festival, Dent Music Festival, Filey Folk Festival, Southwell Folk Festival and Shipley Music Festival. She also performed at Beverley Folk Festival , Southwell and the brand new Todmorden Folk Festival and supported Altan at Saltaire Live and Mark Radcliffe & the Foes at Otley Courthouse.
A fantastic chance to see a rising star of the UK folk scene.
