Cafe Scientifique - Indoor Air Pollution: Should we be worried?

Dr Nicola Carslaw

Environment Department -  University of York

We spend about 90% of our time indoors -at home, at work, or commuting between the two.  Our exposure to air pollution from pollutants generated indoors or outdoors happens mainly in the indoor environment. Nicola will discuss the many ways this occurs, and how it can be reduced and avoided.

Nicola Carslaw is a Reader in Air Pollution in the Environment Department at the University of York. She specialises in developing detailed chemical models to understand chemical processing in the indoor environment. Recent work has focused on the chemical reactions that follow cleaning activities, using both surface cleaners and commercial cleaning devices. She has also studied the impact of emissions from material surfaces (such as carpets) and humans indoors. Finally, she is a member of the Department of Health’s Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollution (COMEAP).
