The Tees Valley International Film Festival (TVIFF) 2026 presents the gala premiere of ‘Offcomer’ a short documentary exploring queer life in Cumbria through the story of Stan, a gay man in his late 80s whose life spans decades of profound social change. From criminalisation and loss, to faith, love, and community activism, Stan’s experiences offer a unique window into a hidden history of LGBTQ+ life in the rural north.

Blending personal testimony with a wider exploration of queer Cumbrian identity, Offcomer asks what it means to belong in a place that has often overlooked the people who were there all along.

This gala screening will be followed by a live interview and Q&A with Stan and LGBTQ+ filmmaker Stuart Armstrong, along with a screening of Stuart’s previous short film ‘Meat Raffle’ which won Best Comedy at TVIFF 2025.
