A funny, honest and moving new play by  Rachel Stockdale, the award-winning artist behind the critically acclaimed production Fat Chance. Inspired by real conversations with more than 100 women and caregivers across the region, Mother? uses verbatim theatre to explore the pressures, expectations and realities of modern parenting with warmth, humour and heart.

30 of those interviewed are represented here in Debbie Todd’s portrait exhibition which showcases some of the beauty and chaos of motherhood.

Rachel Stockdale is an actor & theatremaker. As writer/performer, her work includes the acclaimed Fat Chance (The Pleasance, Edinburgh Fringe & sold-out UK tour); Tub Time (Northern Stage); Bin Day (BBC iPlayer); Coal Girls (Oldham Coliseum) and Where All The Extra Pounds Came From (North East Comedy Hot House). Rachel won the Arts Council England Award for Fat Chance (NE Culture Awards) and is a BBC Development Fund Comedy Creative.

The photographs were produced by Debbie Todd who is a socially engaged photographer, working with underrepresented marginalised communities around the UK.
