A ground-breaking new café is opening its doors at ARC.
Culture Kitchen is a no-waste, community-powered café that transforms rescued food into delicious meals, all served on a pay-what-you-decide basis. Whether you give a little, a lot, or nothing at all, everyone is welcome to enjoy a hot meal in a warm, inclusive space.
At a time when the cost of living continues to rise and food waste remains a pressing environmental concern, Culture Kitchen is a bold response. With more than a third of the world’s food supply estimated as going to waste, the new café based at ARC is a community project showing what can be done to tackle it.
Working alongside Fareshare, food is rescused from local farms, factories and suppliers to rescue perfectly good food that would otherwise end up in landfill with weekly menus designed around what’s available.
Shaun Dowd, Deputy Chief Executive at ARC, said: “This isn’t just a café, it’s a movement and we believe that access to good food is a right, not a privilege.
“By rescuing surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste and inviting the community to pay what they can, we’re creating a space where everyone is fed with dignity and respect” added Shaun.
But the impact goes far beyond the plate. Culture Kitchen is working with local volunteers to deliver hands-on training in catering and food preparation, helping people gain valuable skills and confidence to support their journey into employment.
Culture Kitchen is open from Wednesday to Saturday between 12pm and 2.30pm.
