New Exhibition to help tackle Knife Crime

People viewing an art exhibition featuring anti-knife crime artwork, including drawings, a paper angel sculpture, and informational panels. The exhibition is set in a well-lit space with wooden panel walls and a glass display case.

We are hosting a powerful new exhibition! On The Edge showcases artwork created by young people exploring the real-life impact of knife crime on individuals, families and communities.

Developed in collaboration with schools across the Tees Valley located in areas identified as violent hotspots, the exhibition highlights the voices of young people as they reflect on the consequences of knife crime.

Through early discussions and creative activities in schools, the project encouraged young people to engage in meaningful conversations and consider safer, more positive choices.

Taking these conversations as inspiration, the young people transformed their ideas into artwork. Through drawings and illustrations, they explored themes including empathy, the dangers of knife crime and the impact it can have, creating a powerful and thought-provoking collection of pieces.

On The Edge has been funded by Thirteen Group and the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence (CURV) which sits within Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland.

Matt Storey, Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “Projects like ‘On The Edge’ show how powerful creativity can be in helping young people understand the dangers of knife crime.

“It’s fantastic to see the positive effect CURV’s Knife Crime Fund is having on communities across Cleveland.”

You can find the exhibition in The Gallery Downstairs until Fri 27 Mar, we are open Tues to Sat from 10am.
