Team ARC’s Highlights of the Month
October was an incredible month at ARC – filled with powerful performances, community celebrations, and moments that reminded us just how special it is to be part of this creative hub. Here’s what some of the team picked as their highlights:
Mark – Box Office Supervisor
Riot Music reminded me how poetry can cut right to the heart of complex issues in just a few verses. Dominic Nelson-Ashley had the audience captivated as he shared poems about fatherhood, identity, and community. It was a powerful reminder that last summer’s violence does not define Teesside.
Aisha Lama – Producing Assistant
My pick of the month has to be Ordinary Decent Criminal – one of the most powerful pieces of theatre I’ve ever seen. Mark Thomas gave a captivating performance against a stunningly minimal set, while Ed Edwards’ writing was moving, shocking, and deeply authentic. I feel incredibly lucky that this show came to ARC, and I hope we can welcome Paines Plough back soon!
Simon Shaw – Marketing Officer
I really enjoyed the Festival of Light and Colour. It was an amazing celebration of community; my favourite part was the way the diyas lamps were incorporated into the performances in the darkened theatre space – absolutely wonderful to watch.
Samantha Holden – Creative Engagement Coordinator
My highlight this October was also the Festival of Light and Colour. From the front of house and bar lit up with diyas decorated by children from Links Primary School, to the delicious food provided by Middlesbrough Hindu Temple, it was wonderful to see the community come together in celebration. Daksha Asher worked incredibly hard to create a vibrant, joy-filled performance of dance and song to mark Diwali. Also a special shout-out to Ordinary Decent Criminal and Mayiam Ali’s sharing of Voice Notes – both fantastic!
We’re so excited for what November has in store at ARC! From the hard-hitting drama of Bad Lads to an unforgettable night with Bez, and the ultimate tribute with Absolute Bowie, it’s shaping up to be a month to remember!
