Transgender Day of Remembrance at ARC

Tuesday 20th November is the official Transgender Day of Remembrance, and this year Trans Aware are hosting a series of events at ARC to mark the occasion.

In 2017, Trans Aware became the first registered charity in the North East of England which is specifically aimed towards meeting the needs of transgender and non-binary people in the region.

Ellie Lowther will be delivering a Trans101 Awareness session in the afternoon and tickets are available from ARC Box Office, or online at arconline.co.uk. In this session, people will be able to learn more about the issues faced and concerns raised by transgender people.

The session is Pay What You Decide, making it affordable for everyone, and all proceeds will go to Trans Aware.

The day will also see the launch of the Tees Valley Trans Forum (TVTF) which will be facilitated by Trans Aware, and will focus on issues faced by transgender, non-binary, and intersex people. Interest from the voluntary and private sector, as well as stakeholders, is welcomed. Please email [email protected] to register.

The day culminates at 6pm, with the start of the Transgender Day of Remembrance event where people are invited to come together as a community to honour those who have been murdered in the last year. This year’s TDOR will feature an open mic and the screening of some short films, before the names of those who have lost their lives are read out at 8pm.

This is a day to show strength and unity as a community, and all are welcome.
