Tees Valley International Film Festival (TVIFF) 2026 presents the gala premiere of Paul Suggitt’s new feature length documentary ‘This Is Pete’, a raw, unglamorous look at 2006 Big Brother winner Pete Bennett.

Told in his own words, the film tells the story of an unexpected star. A man who was handed everything, lost it all and then, against all the odds, forged a path to a new life that brought the true happiness and opportunity that reality TV fame promised but failed to deliver.

When Pete stepped out of the Big Brother house in 2006 as winner, he was the most famous faces in the country. His energy, honesty, and unfiltered Tourette’s captured the public’s heart and awarded him victory and the £100,000 prize.

He entered the legendary Big Brother house as a good natured raver with Tourette’s Syndrome. Six weeks later, after his energy, honesty and unique personality had captured the nation’s heart, he emerged from the legendary house as the most famous face in the country, £100,000 richer and having gifted the public with a greater understanding of the condition that has dogged him since childhood.

‘This Is Pete’ isn’t about reality TV. It’s about what happens when the cameras stop rolling and the fame begins to fade. The film explores the reality of Pete’s life after the star of celebrity disappeared. It covers the darkness that followed overnight celebrity: addiction, homelessness and the tragic passing of Nikki Grahame.

This gala premiere will feature a live Q&A with Pete Bennett and filmmaker Paul Suggitt. The audience members will also have chance to ask Pete and Paul their own questions after enjoying this fascinating documentary on a wonderful person and the unique life he’s led.
