A group of men on a large, well-lit stage celebrate with raised fists. The man at the centre holds an electric violin aloft and smiles broadly. The performers wear a mix of white shirts, waistcoats, flat caps and neckerchiefs. Stage lighting in blue and white illuminates the scene from above.

Ten years ago, a reticent and nervous group of 18 men stood on a stage in a field and blasted out songs that represented their industrial and social heritage. The men demanded their ‘musicking’ continued and they became Teesside’s first (and only) free and easy pub choir for men. ‘We are a choir’ said one… ‘We are ‘Infant Hercules’!’ explained another – referencing the song the project had commissioned as an anthem for Teesside.

The choir is now 80 strong and has performed at a range of events and has walked and sung their way across the Tees Valley. However, it is still very much Stockton based. ARC and Blind Tiger now have a bold ambition to extend the successful Infant Hercules template to reach and support a wider range of men across all the boroughs of the Tees Valley. Ultimately, we want Infant Hercules to become amongst the largest choirs for men in England.

We hope you’ll come and join us.
