Kathryn’s new play which has been produced by ARC, visits venues around the north over the coming weeks telling the tale of a modern day relationship influenced by the new age ‘lad’ stereotype and how to cope when the perfect boy-meets-girl scenario is shattered. The script which is written by and performed on stage solely by Kathryn, explores a long distance relationship gone wrong as her character ‘girl’ trys to figure out just how her boyfriend’s mind works, but will he really be as trustworthy as he first seems?
Ahead of the tour’s first date at ARC, Kathryn speaks about her north east connections and settling down in Gateshead: “My Mam is from Gateshead and was in youth theatre groups with some of the Auf Wiedersehen cast back in the day, but I grew up in Singapore” she commented.
“I returned to the UK for university in Cambridge and then came back to the north east to do my Masters in Theatre and Performance Practice as part of Live Theatre’s Live Academy in Newcastle. After that, I went off to LA to do Meisner Training as part of the research for my Masters dissertation.” A course which is favoured by many Hollywood actors such as Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise and Steve McQueen.
But after her run with I Told You This Would Happen, she plans to settle down in more familiar territory: “I’m really glad to be putting down personal and artistic roots in the north east – and I’m in the process of moving to Gateshead, so I suppose I’ve come full circle!”
