This class takes place in person and online.

ARCulele Beginners is a fun and exciting band session for ukulele fans, and this brand new beginners class will give you the skills and confidence you need to pluck along to all your favourite tunes.

Even if you’ve never been able to keep a beat or you haven’t picked up an instrument in years, it’s never too late! Come and enjoy a new and exciting hobby with a group of friendly and like-minded individuals.

Participants have the opportunity to take part in a diverse range of public performances if they wish. Recent highlights have included performances at GLOBEfest 2022 (Stockton Globe), Community Meal (ARC) and for a variety of community groups and events.

If you don’t have your own Ukulele to bring to the session, don’t worry! We have a small number of instruments available for you to use.

If you’re already a confident ukulele player, try our ARCulele Advanced class.

  • Session Structure

ARCulele Beginners typically starts with a tune-up to ensure everyone’s instrument is in tune. This is followed by a warm-up sing-a-long, which is a song chosen from the previous week’s session to get everyone’s fingers moving and their hands limber.

Next, the instructor may introduce a new technique or chord progression for the “song of the day,” which is a popular tune chosen for everyone to learn and play together. The instructor will demonstrate the technique and provide guidance on how to play the chords correctly.

Finally, everyone is encouraged to sing along while playing the “song of the day.” The goal of the ukulele session is to create a fun and supportive environment where people can learn new ukulele skills, meet others in the community, and enjoy playing music together.

Please note: The beginner session goes at a slower pace to accommodate participants who are new to the instrument.
