‘The Voice of the Sea’ by Gavinder Singh Srai

“The voice of the sea is seductive, never ceasing, whispering, clamouring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander… in the abysses of solitude” – Kate Chopin, 1899

She stands on the precipice of a great sea. It beckons her. She feels as though if she let herself swim she would never return again. What compels a mother to abandon her husband, children and life behind to escape into the dark void of the ocean?

The piece utilises physical theatre to present the complex battle between conformity and self-fulfilment.

Directed and written by Gavinder Singh Srai, adapted from Kate Chopin’s 1899 novel ‘The Awakening’
