February in Review

People illuminate an ornate cross-shaped object with a bright light, casting a shadow on a dark blue surface, with faces and hands visible.

February has been a brilliant month of creativity and development here at ARC.

We began the month welcoming our 2023 ARC Award winner, Elen Brody, who claimed her residency to develop The Tale of the Star and the Dragon. This beautiful shadow puppet production evolved over the week, with Elen and her team strengthening the work while keeping its deep connection to Wales and the Red Dragon at its heart.

The Resound Theatre team were also with us at the start of February, rehearsing and performing their debut dance production Carriage before taking it out on tour. Inspired by Celtic mythology and the monumental invention of the first passenger carrying train, Carriage marked an exciting milestone for the company.

We closed the month with the winners of the ARC Accelerator AwardUp in the Air Theatre Company. Having previously joined us to develop their modern reimagining of Antigone, this residency focused on strengthening the company itself. Through tailored one-to-one sessions with our marketing, producing, finance and creative engagement teams, they invested in the long-term future of their work.

Looking forward to March

We’re proud to support the tour launch of Bus Stop Goths, kicking off here at ARC on 25–27 March before heading out on the road.

We’re also hosting 5 years of Tees Valley New Creatives, showcasing what the network has achieved over the past 5 years.

Our third Scratch Night hosted by Teesside writer and actor, Beth Mullen.
