“If you are serious about being a director this is the scheme to get on.” Topher Campbell (Artistic Director, Red Room)
The Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme (RTYDS) is the UK’s longest running training scheme for young theatre directors. Every year, it supports professional theatre companies to offer five outreach projects, six three-month placements and over the next three years eight 18-month residencies for emerging directors.
The purpose of the scheme is to provide exceptional professional training for the directors and artistic directors of the future. It aims to bring together the most exciting emerging directors and the UK’s leading regional theatre companies.
Since its foundation in 1960, the scheme has helped the development of many of the best directors in British theatre including: Sir Michael Boyd, Lorne Campbell, James Dacre, Femi Elufowoju Jr, Vicky Featherstone, Rupert Goold, Jeremy Herrin, Theresa Heskins, Sir Trevor Nunn, Nina Raine and John Tiffany.
