We proudly present a Tees Valley International Film Festival 2023 gala screening of Ken Loach’s new film The Old Oak. Filmed and set in County Durham, this new work by this legend of British film was nominated for an award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and tells the story of the last remaining pub in a pit village in the North East where people are leaving as quickly as the mines that made this once thriving community are closing. Houses are cheap and available, thus making it an ideal location for Syrian refugees whose entry into the town makes tensions rise. As tempers fray and trouble simmers, the pub landlord strikes up an unlikely friendship.

To make the screening of this landmark film even more special, we will be joined by two very special guests – Dave Turner who plays the co-lead role of TJ, the pub landlord, and Chris McGlade who plays the fiery pub regular Vic – who will take part in an interview and Q&A hosted by Charlotte Gray. Don’t miss out on this unique screening of a very special piece of cinematic history.

Director: Ken Loach

Cast: Ebla Mari, Dave Turner, Debbie Honeywood, Joe Armstrong, Abigail Lawson, Laura Lee Daly
