For the past year, the Tees Valley International Film Festival has been inviting independent filmmakers from all over the world to submit their films for inclusion in the festival. From the hundreds of entries we received, the following films have been nominated for the Best Documentary Award.

Offshore

Dir: Hazel Falck

Three weeks on, three weeks off. Offshore brings together oil workers’ unique perspectives on the coming energy transition and explores what climate justice really looks like for workers and communities around the UK North Sea. The film looks at how communities and regions have been impacted by past industrial decline, the risks workers face in an increasingly precarious industry and how they can organise for the future.

Lily

Lily is only 17 and lives and breathes Falconry. A lifelong journey and a bond created through nothing but love and trust. Falconry has given Lily a purpose in life, and the film captures her personal growth as she develops her skills to care for Sid. Watch Lily catch her first kill, paint a watercolour and prepare hand-made lures, all for her love of Sid.

Dir: Dan Prince

The Stevie Project

A story about one family’s experience with learning disability that does not shy away from reality. The condition is Tuberous Sclerosis, a rare disorder that affects 16-year-old Stevie – daughter of Ange and Joe, brother of Arlo.

Dir: Arlo Taylor-Osmond

100 of the Best

This short documentary is about the launch of multi-award-winning writer Paul Hodgson’s new book ‘100 of the Best’, held at the Darlington FC Club Shop on 3rd November 2022.

Dir: Matt Bland

Total running time: 1hr 23mins

  • Pay what you decide information

Purple Pay What You Decide Logo

ARC’s theatre and dance performances are priced on a Pay What You Decide basis, which means you don’t have to pay until after you have seen a show!

We want to encourage more people to come and see shows at ARC, more often. Pay What You Decide not only allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show in advance without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not.

Tickets are available to book in advance as usual, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the show. You can then decide on a price which you think is suitable based on your experience, which means if you haven’t enjoyed it at all, you don’t have to pay anything.

All money collected will help ARC pay the artists who have performed, and we therefore hope you will give generously.

Please ensure you have arrived and collected your tickets 15 minutes before the show starts in order to secure your seats. At the end of the show, you can decide what to pay, either by cash on the door or by card at the Box Office.
