The screenings will be shown at ARC as part of the ‘encore’ initiative which enables live performances to be filmed and then re-screened to audiences across the world at a later date.
The screenings are the first of a kind for ARC and are hoping to attract ballet and dance enthusiasts to experience the performances in an intimate setting as well as attracting and introducing new audiences to the art form in a more informal way.
The first encore screening will be The Pharaoh’s Daughter, an Egyptian tale of fantasy and exploration shown on 24 November.
The doomed love story of La Bayadere set in India will screen on Monday 15 December, the ballet’s performance features a new impressive version of the famous ‘The Kingdom of the Shades’ scene, hailed as one of the most celebrated in the history of ballet.
One of ARC’s Christmas highlights and selling fast is the Bolshoi Ballet’s interpretation of the festive favourite The Nutcracker on Tuesday 23 December which will see the toys magically come to life by some of the world’s leading dancers.
The new year will welcome Tchaikovsky’s famous, lyrical score with Swan Lake as the Russian ballet depict the masterpiece of love, deception and drama.
All performances have been developed under the instruction of Bolshoi’s choreographer Yuri Grigorovichcal and feature intricate costumes and extensive theatrical sets.
