Big Dance 2012 was one of the UK’s biggest ever celebration of dance with events taking place across Stockton in the summer. ARC in partnership with Dance City and Stockton Borough Council hosted Big Dance week from 7-14 July – which was jam packed with film screenings, workshops, performances and exciting showcases in innovative locations from children and young people and professionals.

Stockton Borough Council, Dance City and ARC teamed up to support and deliver this national dance programme in Stockton. Starting in April schools signed up to learn a routine choreographed by Wayne McGregor and performed it as part of a world record attempt to get as many people dancing at the same time on the same day on May 18. Since then the Big Dance Stockton programme has supported schools and community groups to work with local dance providers to create exciting performances for the national Big Dance week.

Big Dance week took place across the UK from 7-14 July with events such as Middlesbrough Mela and Darlington Big Street Dance joining in for the celebration of dance. Stockton’s Big Dance week offered exciting dance opportunities including an Evening of Dance on Screen and a host of free dance workshops for people of all ages.

The finale of Big Dance week in Stockton on 14 July was Stockton Dance Festival: An extravaganza of pop up dance performances, workshops and displays across Stockton from young people, professionals and providers.
