Edinburgh Fringe welcomes ARC shows

Over the past few years, ARC’s support for local and regional artists has led to the development of shows that have been performed everywhere from the Southbank Centre to The Lowry. The next stop is Edinburgh, as ARC presents three shows by its Associate Artists.

Daniel Bye, who in 2012 was selected by Bridging the Gap, a project developed by ARC, Newcastle Theatre Royal and The Maltings Theatre & Cinema, Berwick-upon-Tees, will be presenting two shows. How To Occupy an Oil Rig is a playful, provocative show about protest for everyone who ever wanted to change anything and will be on at Northern Stage at St Stephen’s.

Daniel’s solo show, The Price of Everything, is currently touring the UK and is part of the British Council Edinburgh Showcase 2013. Appearing at the Hill Street Theatre, the comic and provocative show is for anybody who is curious about the difference between the price of an object and its value.

Tom Walton, director of multidisciplinary theatre company, FallenFromGrace, will be searching for something a little more real and spontaneous as his show When We Embraced enjoys its Edinburgh showcase at Northern Stage at St Stephens. This playful and charming show encourages the audience to consider the connections we make and embrace things they’ve not embraced before, or at least haven’t admitted to out loud.

In addition to these three shows, ARC has worked with a number of other artists in the development of their shows which are en route to Edinburgh, including the latest work from Kate Fox, Third Angel, TongueTied Theatre, Hannah Nicklin and drama double act Chris Thorpe and Hannah Jane Walker.

With a presence at Edinburgh Fringe for the very first time, ARC’s Chief Executive Annabel Turpin said that she was looking towards the festival more than ever,

Artist development is pivotal to our programme of events here at ARC, and in working so closely with our Associate Artists we’ve seen some truly first-class theatre emerge. To then have the opportunity to take these shows to Edinburgh is very exciting.
