New writing shared at ARC in a series of rehearsed readings

Eight emerging playwrights who are part of Writers ARCADE, will each present a brand new piece of work over the coming weeks to the public as part of Pay What You Decide.

The talented writers have been finalising the scripts for their individual rehearsed readings over the last few months after benefitting from a ten month professional development scheme from Arts Council England, awarded to the group so that fresh new theatre in the region could be presented.

The grant enabled the writers to receive advice and support from a range of arts professionals and established writers including Alex Chisholm, Associate Director and Literary Manager of the West Yorkshire Playhouse and broadcaster and Emmerdale writer Nick Ahad.

Each reading will be; directed, delivered by a small group of actors and have minimal technical set up, enabling the scripts to have the ultimate focus.

Themes of some of the scripts include an overnight car journey for two colleagues whose lives are suddenly changed forever, a surprise discovery for the family of a girl whose flat has been empty for sixteen years and a war hero who returns home to swap a real gun for a supermarket gun.

The schedule for the rehearsed readings are as follows;

Breakdown by Dan Perry – Wed 13 May
