On Wednesday 27 March we invited past participants of Staying Out to come and revisit the group and join in a celebration of the group’s success.
The aim of Staying Out is to bring people who are isolated into the building and encourage them to take part in creative activities and meet new people, with many participants deciding independently to keep coming to activities even after they have completed the Staying Out programme.
The top-floor gallery space was decorated with crafts that were made by the group, including decorated tote bags and a variety of knitted arts and crafts pieces. A collections of poems written by Staying Out participants was also on display around the space.
To boost the party atmosphere a speaker was brought out, and the group were able to request their favourite songs before they were treated to a surprise performance by our Wednesday Silver Singers group. One participant even got up and joined the choir in their last song!
As well as past participants, healthcare professionals were also invited to come and get a feel for what the Staying Out programme is about, meet people who had had good experiences with the programme, and speak to the staff who run it.
Staying Out can only be attended by people who are referred by healthcare professionals, so making it known to them is vital.
