Switchback is a partnership between writer, director and performer Phil Ormrod and Oliver Lamford. Oliver works with installation, music and performance to a make strongly visual theatre and art. Phil trained at LAMDA, the National Theatre Studio, and at Northern Stage on a bursary from the Regional Theatre Young Director’s Scheme.
His practice varies from project to project, but he usually begins with text, and he is particularly interested in the formal relationship a piece creates with its audience. In an ideal world, he would like people to experience theatre as a surprising conversation with someone they trusted, and in whose company they felt completely themselves.
Switchback were awarded Grants for the Arts funding from Arts Council England to make and tour Lucy and the Hawk, a comedy about loneliness and peregrine falcons which was showcased at ARC in the autumn season. The show was a co-production between Switchback and ARC, in association with Northern Stage.
Switchback will be presenting a work in progress of a new site specific show, The Easterly on Saltburn Pier in June 2013 as part of the PLACE commissions.
