Egyptian-British singer Natacha Atlas began her career as part of the world fusion group Transglobal Underground and has collaborated with Jah Wobble. She’s known for her fusion of Arabic and Western music, particularly hip-hop and has been influenced by many styles including Maghrebain, hip hop, drum and bass, and reggae.

Natacha Atlas’s new offering, Myriad Road, sees her combining creative forces once again. This time, she has worked with one of France’s most eminent jazz musicians, Ibrahim Maalouf – the highly-garlanded Lebanese-born French jazz and classical trumpeter, producer, and composer – to produce her first jazz album.

Besides her own projects, Atlas also frequently works with other artists. During her career, she has collaborated with an eclectic group of distinguished names across a wide variety of musical genres including: pop (Peter Gabriel, Sinead O’Connor, Indigo Girls, and Jean-Michel Jarre); classical (Nigel Kennedy, Jocelyn Pook); film scores (Danny Elfman, Clint Mansell, David Arnold, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rachel Portman); and world music (Nitin Sawhney, Transglobal Underground, Talvin Singh).

In working with the celebrated Ibrahim Maalouf to produce this stunning jazz album, Atlas again proves her ability to challenge herself whilst retaining her unique synthesis of Western and Middle Eastern musical traditions. Already being hailed as a game-changer in its pioneering marriage of jazz and the mystique of Arabic vocals, Myriad Road delights and disorients by turn, an irresistible combination sure to enrapture Atlas’s current fans and to seduce new ones.
