Explore the creative opportunities where music, sound and theatre meet.

In collaboration with ARC Stockton, join us for an evening exploring opportunities for composers, songwriters and audio designers across theatre and performance.

The event will bring together artists and theatre practitioners for an evening of insight, conversation and collaboration, giving you the chance to hear directly from people working in the field and discover how you could take your own creative practice into theatre.

We’ll explore the role of audio design within theatre and performance, looking at what audio designers do, how they work within productions and the creative opportunities available to musicians and sound practitioners.

Hear from composers and theatre professionals about the realities of creating music for the stage — from finding your first commission and responding to a brief, to working with directors and creative teams.

The panel will explore:

  • Balancing creative vision with a production

Designing Sound For Performance

A discussion exploring the creative role of audio design within theatre and performance, and the ways that sound can help shape a production, tell a story and create an experience for an audience.

The session will look at what an audio designer does, where they fit within a wider creative team and how they collaborate with directors, composers, writers, performers and other designers. It will explore the process of developing the sound world for a production, from the initial creative conversations through to rehearsals and the finished performance.

The panel will also consider the opportunities available to musicians, producers, sound engineers and other artists with experience in music and sound who may be interested in moving into theatre.
