Wondering what’s on this month? It’s going to be a busy one! Here’s a quick look at what you can enjoy at ARC this September.
Music fans are in for a treat as the fantastic Pocket Jazz Orchestra led by Jeremy McMurray are back with an evening of relaxing jazz music, before Teesside legend Mike McGrother invites you to relive some of the highlights from the last three decades, and join him in looking to what the future might hold, in The Tiger Who Came To Town. We’re also looking forward to welcoming P.P. Arnold, Wishbone Ash, and Eddi Reader to ARC, as well as hosting two stages at multi-venue festival The Gathering Sounds.
There will also be comedy capers aplenty with individual headline shows from Justin Moorhouse, Ed Byrne, Axel Blake, and Jenny Éclair, while the Funny Haha Comedy (R)Evolution brings us a night of radical acts from a group of award-winning disabled women – they’ve created characters you will have never seen, written stand up you won’t have heard, and will be delivering hilarious brand new lyrics and poetry, all with the potential for cabaret, theatre and TV development.
Fresh from a run at the Edinburgh Fringe comes Very British Problems: Live, and MC Matt Reed hosts our monthly Catch 22 Comedy Club with guests including Scott Bennett, Jack Traynor and Ignacio Lopez (please note, Catch 22 line-ups are subject to change so please keep an eye on our website and social media pages for the latest news!).
ARC Associate Artist Luca Rutherford starts her autumn UK tour of You Heard Me here in Stockton this month. You Heard Me is a true story about the power to re-make, re-mould and disrupt. A celebration of a single moment of noise that freed Luca from an attack. Made her understand what it means to take up space. To heal. To be part of something much bigger than yourself. It’s a show about refusing to stay quiet, and Luca would love you to be there.
Cinema-goers can enjoy a wide range of screenings from Name Me Lawand, Scrapper, and Sound of Freedom, to Trafalgar Releasing’s presentation of A Little Life, the record-breaking production of the bestseller by Hanya Yanagihara, filmed live at the Savoy Theatre in London’s West End. Our regular programme of family films in September includes Mavka: The Forest Song and Just Super.
Elsewhere, our regular classes and activities for adults continue as usual – join us for everything from Tai Chi and Ballet Pilates to Singers, ARCulele, and more! And don’t forget that you can participate in many of these classes online as well as in person. This month you can also try your hand at Bullet Journaling and Calligraphy, come along to a Queer Yoga and Sober Social, or enjoy some Autumn Wreath Making or a day of Creative Writing. Or maybe you fancy having a go at making some Needle Felt: Alpacas and Llamas, or some Bead Spiders?
Also, the Melissa Jacques School of Dance will be presenting their annual show, Everybody Dance; Café Scientifique returns with what promises to be an excellent talk on The Wonder of the Honeybee by Dr John Canning; and from Sat 9 Sep you can drop in to see the latest exhibition in our Gallery, Crow ‘n’ Koru by local artists Jo Williams and Richard Henshaw.
Find out more about everything that’s on this month at ARC, and we look forward to welcoming you soon!
