A play based on a whimsical tale set in the North East will be taking place in the Theatre this weekend which has been developed by Théâtre Sans Frontières.
Mysterious, heart-breaking and humorous in equal measure, Heaven Eyes from award-winning Newcastle based author David Almond is a tale about three youngsters who run away from their children’s home and sail down the River Tyne on a makeshift raft looking for a new adventure.
When they get stuck on the mudflats, they meet a strange girl named Heaven Eyes who lives with her old Grampa. The girl has a secret only Grampa knows, but he’s not telling.
This is the perfect introduction to theatre for ages 8+ from the writer whose novel Skellig won Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year.
In addition, Théâtre Sans Frontières are running a short story writing competition for young people to take part in throughout the Heaven Eyes tour. The competition is open to all those aged 9-14 years old and who have seen the show. Their short story, entitled The Journey, should be no longer than 1,000 words and the deadline for entries to TSF is 24 April. Entries will be judged by David Almond and TSF joint artistic director John Cobb.
