August at ARC begins with the launch of a hugely exciting exhibition, All The Women We Could Have Been. Presented by the IN/Visible Disabled Women’s National Arts Collective in association with ARC Stockton, Arts Depot London and Little Cog, this is a powerful and playful exploration of what life might have been like for disabled women had external limitations not been in place. Enjoy this unique opportunity to see especially created new works of art by some of the Disability Arts Movement’s leading disabled women artists and thinkers, all of whom are aged over 50, play with representation and expectation in works which are witty, poetic and provocative in this call-to-arms celebration. The exhibition opens at 6.30pm, both in person and online, on Wed 2 Aug (all are welcome to attend the opening, but please book your place in advance) and runs until Wed 30 Aug.

In conjunction with the exhibition, disabled women over 50 are invited to an Afternoon Tea Workshop (for all older disabled women from local communities) and a Coffee Morning Workshop (for learning disabled women) – come along, have a chat and try something crafty. You don’t have to be artistic or bring anything along – just yourselves!

This month, we’re also looking forward to welcoming Star Academy to the stage with The Attic, and ARCtic Piranha – a fun, safe and inclusive club night for learning disabled adults – are having a Space Disco!

Love a good laugh? MC Dave Longley will be hosting our monthly Catch 22 Comedy Club with guests Danny PosthillDaniel Blacow and Martin Mor (please note, Catch 22 line-ups are subject to change so please keep an eye on our website and social media pages for the latest news!).

Cinema-goers can enjoy a wide range of screenings from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny to the two films everyone is talking about this summer, Oppenheimer and Barbie! Also, don’t forget our regular programme of family films which this month includes Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken, Moana, and Elemental.

Elsewhere, our regular classes and activities for adults continue as usual – join us for everything from Tai Chi and Ballet Pilates to SingersARCulele, and more. You can also have a go at making your own Needle Felt: Balloon Dogs in the latest instalment of this hugely popular workshop!

Find out more about everything that’s on this month at ARC, and we look forward to welcoming you soon!
