ARC currently manages activity on behalf of the North East Exchange (formerly known as the North East Artist Development Network). The network was formed in 2012 with a vision to make the North East the best place in the UK for artists to develop work. We want to create a strong and effective infrastructure that not only retains talent in the region, but also attracts talent to the region.

The network is led by a small group of organisations committed to support artists to develop their work:

  • Alnwick Playhouse
  • ARC (Chair)
  • Dance City
  • GIFT
  • Live Theatre
  • Northern Stage
  • Sunderland Culture

The network has previously received support from Arts Council England for two phases of funded activity focussed on supporting artists and venues to work together. It continues to exist on the energy, passion and resources of those involved.

It is open to any North East based venue, festival, artist or company. North East Exchange takes place twice a year. The events (previously known as Meet the Programmers and NEAD meetings) bring together venue and festival staff, artists and companies to share knowledge and seed relationships.
