Professional dancer Matt Campbell and ARC bar staff member Jen Chapman have been chosen to perform in Gillie Kleiman’s Recreation this week, an exciting piece about the relationship between dance, work and play.
The performance, which will feature a mix of professional and non professional dancers, is about recreational activities, specifically exploring the dynamics of work and play and how sometimes, the things that we often do for pleasure can sometimes turn into our work.
To reflect this, the two guest dancers will represent different types of dancing and will be each performing their own choreographed piece.
Jenny, who is from Darlington, was selected to perform after she responded to a call out from Gillie who was looking for a member of staff to take part in the show. Sam has been busy working hard to perfect her movement during recent workshops and rehersals, and as part of the agreement between the company and venue, she will also be paid a fair wage for taking part.
Jen said: “I jumped at the opportunity to perform in Recreation as I used to attend dance classes when I was younger.
“Working on the bar at ARC is one way to engage within the arts culture as I am studying Fine Art at Teesside University, but it’s also great to be part of the event and have a chance at performing – I hope the audience will enjoy it!”
Matt Campbell is a dance teacher and choreographer from Stockton who has a lifetime experience of dancing and has produced and performed in many dance-led events. He has also previously ran Commercial Dance classes at ARC.
His choreographed piece has been inspired by his own experiences of dance.
Matt said: “It’s totally different to what I’m used to, but it’s really exciting to be involved and I can’t wait for Thursday night!”
Recreation is choreographed by Gillie Kleiman and performed by Amanda Drago, Victoria Guy and Kit Haigh alongside Matt and Jen.
The performance will take place on Thursday 22 June at 7pm and is Pay What You Decide. To find out more information and to book, click here, or call the Box Office on 01642 525199.
