Three Questions with Rachel Fairburn

This November, Rachel Fairburn brings her brand-new show, Showgirl, to ARC. The show dives into Rachel’s journey into comedy, her fascination with serial killers, and the expectations society puts on women.

You recently opened the tour at Manchester Opera House, and you’re the first Mancunian female comedian to perform there since the late, great Victoria Wood. What was that like?

It was quite a surreal experience as I’ve been to the opera house many times as a child and even worked round the corner from it up until just 6 years ago. I loved the experience though, it’s easily up there in my top five gigs ever.

Do you have any other bucket-list gigs that you’d like to tick off?

For years I dreamed about doing Live at the Apollo and I’ve just filmed it! So now I need a new bucket list gig. I’d love to play to a sold out Glasgow Barrowlands. That would be incredible.

Do you have a favourite place to perform? Where is it, and why?

Manchester as that’s my hometown. Closely followed by Glasgow and the North East. You can guarantee a brilliant crowd that laugh and also make me laugh too.

Catch Rachel here at ARC on Thursday 23 November at 8pm.
