Nuketown.jpgARC is a producing theatre. This means that we commission artists to develop new work and support them as they go out on tour around the UK. Earlier this year, we partnered with The Bike Shed Theatre in Exeter and Derby Theatre for Transit, a package of support for a ‘mid-career’ artist or company to produce a piece of theatre for small-scale spaces that is ambitious in size and content.

The summer programme at ARC's cinema

I work with artists coming in to perform or make work here, I work with other venues as our associate artist’s tour the country, and I work with independent cinema programmer Gareth Negus to curate and programme ARC’s 131 seat cinema. We’ve just launched our really exciting summer cinema programme, which is a great example of the variety of films we screen at ARC.

Attending the TCG Conference in Washington DC


Over the past few days, I've been lucky enough to attend the TCG conference in Washington DC, as part of a group of 11 UK delegates supported by Arts Council England. TCG is the Theatre Communications Group, a national infrastructure organisation which exists to 'foster communication among professional, community and university theatres'.

On-Demand Digital Theatre – The Future of Theatre?

In an age of on-demand TV, music and movies, where does theatre fit? Innovative theatre company Metro-Boulot-Dodo may have the answer with HACT, a digital theatre experiment taking place at ARC until 24 June. Working on the fact that most theatre shows take place in the evening, HACT offers on-demand bitesize theatre experiences that can be accessed by anyone in the venue at any time. These experiences take the form of an audio play that traverses all levels of ARC, and a virtual reality auditorium.
