The ARCtic Piranhas, a group of learning-disabled adults based at ARC Stockton Arts Centre, have been planning fun, safe and inclusive club night events for the learning-disabled community in Teesside since 2015. They’ve had huge successes at their recent events, with hundreds of people attending their themed club nights like the Space Disco, Summer Mix Party, and Daytime Rave.
The group is hoping that their last event of the year, a Winter Wonderland-themed club night, will be their biggest and best yet. The planning group said the club nights are a great way for them to express themselves and meet people, with one of the members telling us “I like coming to see everyone and seeing all my friends”.
Emma Dyson, one of ARC’s Creative Learning Coordinators, works with the group and said: “It’s amazing to see how much ARCtic Piranha has grown over the past year and a half. The events took a break due to COVID-19 but are now back bigger and better than ever, with attendance regularly around 100. It’s a safe place for people to come, party and be totally themselves.”
